De'Shawn Ballard broke the school record in the 200-meter dash, highlighting a weekend of two meets for App State men's track & field.
The Mountaineers sent a total of five athletes to the New Mexico Collegiate Classic, while other competed at the South Carolina Invitational.
Ballard's time of 21.18 seconds, set at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic, bettered the previous school record of 21.21 seconds, set by
Jabari Johnson during the 2017-18 season. Ballard's mark was good for fifth place in the 200-meter dash. He also competed in the 60-meter dash, finishing 18th with a time of 6.93 seconds.
Johnson also competed in the event, finishing 25th in 21.74 seconds.
Also in New Mexico,
Isaac Benz and
Ryan Brown each competed in two events. In the 3,000-meter run, Benz finished sixth overall with a time of 8:37.55 and Brown won his heat and finished 10th with a time of 8:45.67. The two runners also competed in the one-mile run, with Benz finishing 18th in 4:22.83 and Brown crossing 26th in 4:29.51.
Eric Haddock Jr. took part in two events in New Mexico. He placed sixth in the triple jump, covering 49-1.00 (14.96m), and was eighth in the long jump with a mark of 24-00.25 (7.32) and
At the South Carolina Invitational, App State posted a solid performance in the 3,000-meter run.
Michael Flanagan placed second in a PR time of 8:32.25,
Oliver Wilson-Cook placed sixth in a PR time of 8:39.16,
Ben Cignarale crossed ninth with a time of 8:45.30 and
Ethan Barber recorded a PR time of 8:54.77 to finish 13th.
Patrick Freeman placed seventh in the pole vault, clearing 15-5.00 (4.70m). The DMR tandem of
Lawson Benfield, Barber, Flanagan and Wilson-Cook placed seventh with a time of 10:44.01.
Daniel Lauffenburger cleared 6-4.00 to finish seventh in the high jump and
Peter Kenn was eighth in the men's weight throw invitational with a mark of 56-2.00 (17.12m).
The Mountaineers will compete at the JDL College Kick-Off Winston-Salem on Thursday in their final meet before the Sun Belt Championships on Feb. 24 and Feb. 25.
