Women's Tennis to Face Charlotte and ETSU in Johnson City

BOONE N.C. – Looking to extend on their five-game win streak, App State women's tennis prepares for a two match-weekend Tennessee with a pair of 9 a.m. matches. App State faces Charlotte on Saturday before facing ETSU on Sunday.

Last Time Out
App State played a home match on Sunday against College of Charleston (5-5), winning 4-3. Selina Atay/Kate Earnhardt improved to 3-1 on the season after a 6-3 win over Ava Turner/Eleanor Campbell as the No. 3 tandem in the lineup. Sasha Pisareva and Sandra Anglesjö clinched the doubles point, winning 6-4 against Anastasia Palaska/Slade Coetzee. Singles winners included Virginia Poggi, María José Zacarias, and Pisavera.
 
Wins Leaders
In singles, Pisavera is still undefeated with seven wins, while Zacarias has four, and four other players have at least two. In doubles, Cassie Mclay/Zacarias and Atay/ Earnardt each have three wins as pairs, and two other pairs have two victories.

Big Week on the Mountain
After defeating then-No. 48 ECU and the Cougars, the Apps jumped to 49th in the country for their highest ranking in school history. The Apps are on a five-match win streak after beating CofC, while since last season, the Apps are 20-8 over their last 28 matches and 31-19 over their last 50 contests since coach Mosley's second season at the helm. Pisareva, after finishing 2-0 in singles and doubles last week, was named the Sun Belt Women's Tennis Athlete for a third time already. She earned the clincher in singles and doubles on Sunday. 

Scouting Charlotte
The 49ers are 9-3 on the season, shutting out their last two opponents, Wofford and USC Upstate. Saturday's opponent has five players with at least five singles wins, led by Pierina Imparato with a 10-2 record. Overall, they are 45-17 in singles matches. In doubles, their standout pair is Ruxi Schech/Kaavya Sawhney with an 8-1 record. Overall, they are 18-11 n doubles matches.
 
Scouting ETSU
The Buccaneers have started their season 4-4, most recently winning their match against Lipscomb 4-0. ETSU has five players with at least three singles wins, led by Andrea Pascual-Larrinaga (6-2), who is followed by Alejandra Morales (5-2) and Yunuen Elizarraras (5-3). Overall in singles, Sunday's opponent is 24-21 coming into this weekend. In doubles, they are 10-9, led by Laylo Bakhodirova/Morales and Raquel Amaro/Pascual-Larrinaga who are each 3-2 on the year.
 
What's Next
App State has a home match against Arkansas State on March 13th to begin Sun Belt play, followed by a matchup against Western Carolina four days later.
