NEW ORLEANS - App State women's tennis newcomer Sasha Pisareva was named the Sun Belt Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Pisareva earns her first Sun Belt weekly award, while it's the first time since Teodora Sevo last season that a Mountaineer was honored for their weekly performance.
The junior is recognized after in her first match for the Black and Gold, defeated No. 18 Anna Rogers in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, in the Apps' season opener against No. 8 NC State.
As the No. 1, Pisareva dealt Rogers just her sixth loss of the season dating back to the fall and snapped her three-match win streak.
Pisareva and App State returns to action on Sunday at 10 a.m. against Virginia Tech.
