BLACKSBURG, Va. - App State women's tennis concluded the Hokie Fall Invite over the weekend, totaling 20 victories in Blacksburg during the three-day event.
App State faced Virginia Tech, VCU, Radford and Marshall in the hidden dual format while finishing 7-4 in doubles play and a 13-4 mark in singles play, giving the Mountaineers their second straight fall event with at least 20 wins.
The Mountaineers' Kate Earnhardt and Teodora Sevo went a perfect 4-0, while Cassie McLay and María José Zacarias finished 2-2. Despite losing their first doubles matches as a tandem this fall, they still boast a solid 9-2 record through the first three tournaments. Virginia Poggi and Sandra Anglesjö chipped in with a victory against Marshall.
In singles, three different student-athletes went 4-0 in Earnhardt, Poggi, and Zacarias, while 11 of the 12 combined wins between the trio were in straight sets. Earnhardt finished with an impressive 8-0 record in singles and doubles combined. McLay collected a victory as well in singles. Twelve ouf of the 13 victories in were in straight sets for the Apps.
App State totaled wins against all four opponents, including the Hokies in singles action with Earnhardt, Poggi and Zacarias earning victories on Friday against VT.
