BOONE, N.C. -- Appalachian State volleyball will take on Coastal Carolina in a pair of key Sun Belt East Division meetings. The Mountaineers and Chanticleers square off in Conway on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. and meet again on Friday in Boone at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN+. App State sits a game behind Coastal Carolina for first place in the Sun Belt East Division.
THE SERIES
- This will be the 16th and 17th all-time meeting between the two schools. Coastal Carolina holds a 9-6 edge in the all-time series
- Last season, App State won both meetings, winning 3-0 in Boone and 3-2 in Conway
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
- App State enters play at 9-10 overall and 5-1 in Sun Belt play
- Emma Reilly continues to leave her name in the record books. Reilly has 1,278 career digs, which sits seventh all-time and is 20 digs shy of sixth place. In addition, she has 108 service aces in her career and is four shy of entering the top-10 in program history
- Reilly continues her strong defensive play this season and sits atop the Sun Belt in digs (372) and digs per set (5.17). She has tallied 20 or more digs in 11 matches this season
- Grace Kinsch has reached double figures in digs four times this season, including a career-high 12 against UNC Wilmington on Sept. 6. She has posted 10 digs in two of the last three contests and is averaging 2.5 digs per set during that span
- Emma Longley has a team-high eight double-doubles this season. Over the weekend, she posted a double-double in back-to-back contests for the second time this year, with a 20-kill, 11-dig effort at Arkansas State and a 17-kill and career-high 22-dig output at Little Rock
SCOUTING THE CHANTICLEERS
- Coastal Carolina enters the week having won six straight and sitting at 16-2 on the season. The Chanticleers also are the lone remaining unbeaten team in conference play at 6-0
- The Chanticleers are averaging 2.19 service aces per set, which leads the Sun Belt and also leads the nation. In addition, Coastal Carolina is hitting a league best .287 as a team
- The Chanticleers won three Sun Belt Player of the Week Awards for games played last week. Anett Nemeth was named Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week. after posting two double-doubles and tallying 44 kills and 22 digs. Brigitta Petrenko was named Sun Belt Freshman of the Week and Sun Belt Setter of the Week, after posting 84 assists, 25 digs and six service aces
