App State Downs Davidson in Thrilling 4-3 Victory

DAVIDSON, N.C. - Appalachian State University men's tennis (11-10) captured a thrilling 4-3 triumph over Davidson (13-6) on Saturday afternoon at the Davidson Tennis Courts.

The Mountaineers snapped a four-match losing streak against a formidable Wildcat squad that won seven of their last eight matches going into the contest, while Davidson boasted a 7-2 mark at home.

App State claimed the doubles point and won three out of four singles matches to secure the win. 

Scott Webster and Milo Bargeron notched their 14th win of the season against Artem Khrapko and Axel Fries in a 6-1 win. 

Clinching the 1-0 start for the Black and Gold was Ben Webster and Alex Pavkovich, who cruised to a 6-1 triumph Shamael Chaudhry and David Hager for win No. 14. 

With the 1-0 edge, Campbell Stone came up big to deliver App the 2-0 start with a 6-3, 6-3 over Jack Riazzi. The win was the sixth of the season for Stone.

The Wildcats cut the deficit to one, 2-1 after Pavkovich fell to Hager. But the Apps bounced back winning the next two matches for the victory.  Scott topped Khrapko in straight sets for his 15th win of the campaign, the most wins for the senior in singles since his freshman season. 

Ben continued his big day, as he clinched the match with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Fries, which gave Ben his 11th win of the year.  It might have been the most significant performance of the season for the freshman, contributing to the doubles tally and the singles match. 

Bargeron fell in his match in three frames to Chaudhry. The sophomore was down one set but forced a third set, 3-6, before falling in the final stanza, 6-4. 

Alex Brea would fall in his match, but it was a valiant effort against Yash Parikh 2-6, 5-7 (10-3). 

App State will await its opponent for the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, which will take place from April 18-22 in Peachtree City, Ga.
