STATESBORO, Ga. - Appalachian State University men's tennis (10-8, 0-1 SBC) suffered a 4-2 setback to Georgia Southern (12-10, 3-1 SBC) at the Wallis Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.
App State got off to a strong start capturing the doubles point but couldn't sustain the momentum in singles play, as GASO came away with four of the six contests.
For the second straight match, the effort was there with the Apps taking the final two contests that decided the game to three sets.
Alex Pavkovich came back from a one-set deficit to Pascal Wagemaker to force a final frame but fell in a 7-6 tiebreaker.
Ben Webster also had a three-set affair with App trailing 3-2, but fell in the last two sets after coming away with the first stanza, 6-4.
Alex Brea and
Alexander Free fell to Murphy McCullough and Santiago Suarez, 6-3, which gave GASO a leg up in doubles play. However, App claimed the final two doubles affairs thanks to
Alex Pavkovich and
Ben Webster earning a hard-fought 7-5 win over Artemie Amari and Stefano Di Aloy for the duo's team-high fourth straight win.
Scott Webster and
Milo Bargeron came through with a timely 7-5 triumph as the top duo to secure a 1-0 lead. The pairing dealt Eddie Landin/Diego Finkelstein the two-point defeat.
Scott/Bargeron and Ben/Pavkovich each have 11 wins in doubles action and a 22-9 combined mark.
GASO came away with the first two matches in singles competition when Brea fell to McCullough in straight sets and
Campbell Stone suffering a 6-4, 6-1 setback to Suarez.
Scott continued his solid day with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Aloy as the No. 1 in the lineup to tie up the match, 2-2, and improve his singles record to 12-4.
