BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University men's tennis (7-4) continues its road trip with two matches in as many days against Stetson (2 p.m.) on Sunday at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center before facing Mercer on Sunday at 9 a.m. in Deland, Fla.
Appalachian will have its hands full with a pair of seven-win teams that boast a combined 14-6 mark this season.
The Mountaineers fell to the Runnin' Bulldogs of Gardner-Webb in a 5-2 setback. The score was much closer than the score indicated as GWU needed a tiebreaking win in the doubles clincher and a pair of three-set matches.
Scott Webster and
Milo Bargeron both picked up singles wins to tally the Mountaineers points. Scott is 6-3 this season while Bargeron also has six wins with a 6-5 mark. App State is still a solid 40-25 (.615) in singles action this season with six players boasting five or more victories.
In doubles play, Alex Pakovich and
Ben Webster improved to a team-best 7-3 in the setback against GWU. Bargeron and Scott are 5-3 to round out the leading tandems and help App boast a 17-11 mark in doubles action.
SCOUTING STETSON (7-2)
Stetson has won three of its last four matches and is 6-1 at home this season with the only defeat coming at the hands of Florida Atlantic. Malik Bhatnagar and Loic Blanco lead the way in singles competition with impressive records at 8-0 and 8-1, respectively two other players for Stetson have won at least six matches in Angus Bradshaw and Antoine Sanchez. Overall, Stetson is a solid 39-12 (.765).
In doubles play, Bradshaw and Bhatnagar are 4-0 while Blanco and Sanchez are 4-1 to lead a Hatters team that is 15-11 overall.
SCOUTING MERCER (7-4)
The Bears are on a three-match skid with losses against the likes of Virginia and then-No. 11 Virginia. Mercer is 2-1 against Sun Belt teams with wins against Louisiana and Georgia Southern. Three of Mercer's four losses have come on the road.
Appalachian will return to action on Wednesday against Bethune-Cookman at 3:30 p.m. in Daytona Beach, Fla.
