Women's Tennis to Face NC State, Campbell on Saturday

BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State University women's tennis (3-3) will play a pair of matches on Saturday against NC State at 9 a.m. and Campbell at 1 p.m. The contests will take place in Raleigh, N.C. at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center on The Wolfpack's campus.

The Mountaineers are coming off a solid 1-1 weekend where they dealt in-state foe Charlotte a 5-2 defeat, before falling to a strong ODU squad. Appalachian is off to a stronger start than last season, where App wouldn't get its third win until Feb. 16.

App State captured both doubles matches and four of six singles contests to pick up the win over the 49ers.

ODU proved to be a tough out as it dealt App the 6-1 setback. Zacarias highlighted the Mountaineers' day with an impressive three-set win over Holly Hutchinson as the No. 1 in the lineup. Zacarias came back from a one-set deficit to win 0-6, 6-0, 7-5.

Three different Mountaineers lead the team in singles play with Taylor Bygrave, Melissa Machado, and Zacarias posting 3-2 marks. Zacarias has won her last two matches.

App has played well in doubles play with an 8-7 record. Machado and Teodora Sevo have been a solid pairing with a team-best 4-2 record. Swope and Zacarias are the other duo with multiple wins boasting a 3-2 mark.

Scouting NC State
The Wolfpack are 1-3 this season after falling to Kansas in a narrow 4-3 defeat. NCSU's only triumph came in a 4-3 win over Wichita State. Adriana Remi (7-3) and Taylor Bridges (7-4) pace the team in singles play. They're two of the four student-athletes that have at least five wins. North Carolina State is 44-39 (.530) in singles action. Helene Grimm/Bianca Moldovan are 3-1 while Anna Rogers/Claudia Wiktorin and Reamia/Amanda Rebol are 2-1. NCSU is 7-3 in doubles competition.
