BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State University men's tennis (4-2) will play a pair of matches this weekend in Richmond Ky., beginning with Eastern Kentucky on Saturday at 1 p.m. followed by a 2 p.m. matchup against Xavier to conclude the weekend.
Appalachian had its four-match win streak snapped at Presbyterian in a close 4-3 setback. App captured the doubles point but would fall in four of the six singles matches.
Despite the loss, the Mountaineers are still off to a solid start. App is 26-10 (.722) overall with all seven student-athletes who have seen the court post at least three victories.
Alex Pavkovich leads the team with a 5-1 mark and two victories each at the No. 4 and 5 spots.
Ben Webster and
Campbell Stone are both 4-2 while
Scott Webster and
Milo Bargeron each have three wins.
Blake Carter is 3-0 this season and is one of the two Mountaineers with Scott that have three-match winning streaks.
In doubles action, App has been even more impressive with a 13-3 (.812) showing. Scott and Bargeron are a perfect 4-0. The pairing of the two Mountaineers are 13-3 since teaming up midway through last season. Ben and Pavkovich are 4-1 to put them at a combined 8-1 with Scott and Bargeron.
Scouting EKU
EKU is 2-6 this season and is on a three-match slide going into Saturday's match. But the Colonels have faced the likes of Purdue, Kentucky, Virginia Tech and Virginia. EKU is 16-26 in singles action. Parth Aggarwal Is 3-4 while Ramon Van Flymen is also 3-4 to pace the Colonels in singles action. EKU has six doubles wins this season. Aggarwal/Gabriel Ruiz and Eduardo Cabral/Juan Soria each have two wins apiece.
Scouting Xavier
Xavier is 0-3 with losses against Western Michigan, Ohio State, and Ball State. The Musketeers will face Valparaiso today before their contest against the Apps.
App State will continue its four-match road trip next Saturday, Feb. 17 against Elon at 1 p.m. in Burlington, N.C.
