Field Hockey Signs Six to 2019 Class

BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State field hockey head coach Meghan Dawson and the Mountaineers' coaching staff are excited to announce the signing of six future student-athletes to the 2019 signing class.
 
The Black and Gold sign Addie Clark, Allison Corey, Rachel Fleig, Madison Miles, Sarah Farrell and Carli Ciocco. The 2019 signing class comprises three forwards, two midfielders and one goalkeeper. Signees also come from five different states – Kentucky, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and New Jersey.
 
"I am extremely excited to officially welcome this group to the Mountaineer family," Dawson said. "They are extremely high achieving both on and off the field. Each individual is different and will bring different skill sets that will aid us in the fall. They are a committed group of young women and I cannot wait to get them on campus." 
 
Addie Clark | 5'9 | Goalkeeper | Louisville, Ky. | duPont Manual High School
A dominant goalkeeper that put together a phenomenal senior season in high school competition, Clark recorded 18 shutouts and 163 saves. The goalkeeper earned all-state first team honors as a senior and an all-state second team recognition her junior year. Clark played under head coach Brittany Vencill at duPont Manual High School, earning the team's most valuable player award as a freshman and as a senior. The Louisville, Ky. native also played club field hockey for head coach Eleanor Mitchell with Stealth Field Hockey. With the club, Clark earned multiple honors, including a selection to the U.S. Field Hockey U17 Junior National Camp. Born on Feb. 2, 2001, Clark is the daughter of Jason and Andrea Clark. The future Mountaineer also has two siblings, Ruby and Mamie. Her mother, Andrea, is a former field hockey player who played collegiately at Louisville.
 
Allison Corey | 5'5 | Midfielder | Crofton, Md. | South River High School 
An impressive multi-sport athlete in high school, Corey will provide further depth to the Mountaineers' midfield in 2019. The midfielder played high school field hockey at South River High School under head coach Megan Atkinson. Corey served as a team captain her senior year, tallying nine goals and seven assists. Corey's contributions throughout her high school career helped her team win a state championship in each of the past three seasons. Off the field, Corey competed in track and field for one year and swimming for three years. The Maryland native also played club field hockey for Sarah Dawson, the sister of App State head coach Meghan Dawson. Corey is the daughter of Donna and Edward Corey, and she was born on July 24, 2001. She also has three siblings, Ian, Emma and Luke.
 
Rachel Fleig | 5'5 | Forward/Midfielder | Pasadena, Md. | Chesapeake High School
A talented goal scorer that can play both as a forward and as a midfielder, Fleig played high school field hockey under head coach Joan Johnson. The Maryland native led her team in scoring all four seasons, totaling 67 goals and 48 assists in her high school career. Fleig has earned a plethora of honors, being named first team all-state and to the NFHCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region team as a senior. The team captain was also named to the Washington Post All-Metro first team as a sophomore and as a junior. Also, as a junior, Fleig was selected as the Capital Gazette Field Hockey Player of the Year. Like her future Black and Gold teammate Allison Corey, Fleig played club field hockey for Freedom Hockey, who is coached by Sarah Dawson. In the Junior Premier Indoor League, Fleig led the league in scoring three times. Aside from field hockey, Fleig was a member of her high school's bowling team for three years and the track and field team for two years. As part of the bowling team, Fleig was named first team all-county as a sophomore and as a junior. Born on June 5, 2001, Fleig is the daughter of Cecilia and Brian Fleig. She has two older siblings, Chris, 29, and Elaine, 27. When Fleig arrives at Appalachian, she plans to major in mass communication with a focus in video production. Her hobbies include bowling, hiking, crafting and journalism.
 
Madison Miles | 5' | Midfielder | Chadds Ford, Pa. | Unionville High School
A major contributor in multiple high school sports, Miles played high school field hockey for head coach Katie Arnold. In four years at Unionville High School, the crafty midfielder totaled 38 goals and 66 assists. As a senior, Miles recorded 10 goals and 18 assists, earning her the 2018 Unionville High School field hockey player of the year award. Also during her senior season, Miles earned a first team Chesmont League selection and a second team all-state selection. The Pennsylvanian also was selected to play in the PhilaFH Senior All-Star Game. In club field hockey, Miles played with the WC Eagles for head coach Guy Cathro. Miles and the Eagles placed first in multiple tournaments, including the USA Field Hockey U16 NIT in 2016. Aside from field hockey, Miles played four years of ice hockey, notching a first team selection in the Chesmont League her senior season. The multi-sport athlete also played two years of softball at Unionville. Off the field, Miles excelled in the classroom by being named to the All-State Academic Field Hockey Team. Born on Aug. 29, 2000, Miles is the daughter of Helen Anne and Thomas Miles. She also has two brothers, Thomas, 20, and Jackson, 16.
 
Sarah Farrell | 5'6 | Forward | Gloucester, Va. | York High School
As a senior, Farrell dominated high school competition at York High School. Serving as the sole team captain, Farrell scored 30 goals and tallied eight assists as she helped York and head coach Danielle Warters advance to the state semifinals. The Virginia native's stellar senior campaign also helped her earn the Class 3 Field Hockey State Player of the Year award. Farrell's senior-season point total also set a single season scoring record for state, region, district and school competition. Aside from her final year at York, the future Mountaineer earned all-region honors in each of her past three high school seasons. Farrell also played club field hockey with Focus Field Hockey. Born on June 6, 2001, Farrell is the daughter of Kevin Farrell. She also has three siblings – Nolan, 30, Logan, 28, and Jacob, 23.
 
Carli Ciocco | 5'4 | Forward | Cherry Hill, N.J. | Cherry Hill East High School
A skilled forward that led her high school team in scoring all four years, Ciocco turned in a successful high school career under head coach Elizabeth Scharff. The future Mountaineer progressed each season, earning second team all-conference honors as a sophomore before earning first team all-conference honors as a junior and as a senior. Ciocco was named as the team's offensive MVP for three seasons and served as a senior captain in her final season at Cherry Hill East High School. The New Jersey native also played club field hockey for the South Jersey Edge with head coach Kathi Liszewski. In 2017, Ciocco helped the Edge become the U19 National Festival Champions. Aside from field hockey, Ciocco laced up for her high school's softball team, playing four seasons. Ciocco was born on Sept. 13, 2001, and has three siblings – Nicholas, 22, Jacob, 19, and Rome, 13. Her oldest brother is a senior outfielder for the Saint Peters University baseball team. Jacob also is a collegiate athlete, throwing for the Stockton University track and field team.
