Appalachian State University field hockey will play its first home match of the 2017 season when it hosts the Davidson Wildcats on Friday, Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. The Mountaineers will also play No. 4 North Carolina on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Scouting Davidson (0-2)
Davidson fell in its first two games of the season with the most recent contest coming against Rider, 5-1. Davidson is led by Ginny Turner who enters her 11th season as head coach of the Wildcats. Caroline Stanley and Hannah Fisher each have a goal and Bean Rodriguez has started both games in goal while making 11 saves in her 105 minutes of work.

Scouting North Carolina (3-1)
As of Sept. 6, North Carolina is on a three-game winning streak that includes two shutouts against Iowa and Princeton. Karen Shelton enters her 37th season at the helm. Four Tar Heels have scored a pair of goals, which includes Gab Major, Meredith Sholder, Marissa Creatore and Ashley Hoffman. Major has also dished out a team-high four assists. Amanda Hendry is the leading goalkeeper and has amassed 254 minutes while allowing just four goals.
