About the Mountaineers
Appalachian dropped its first two MAC games to Kent State and Miami last weekend. On Friday, Sept. 15, the Mountaineers lost to the Golden Flashes, 3-0, before losing to the RedHawks, 6-2, on Sunday, Sept. 17. In the Miami game,
Taylor Cimbalist scored her team-leading fourth goal of the year and
Meghan Smart netted her first-career goal. Cimbalist is near the top of the MAC in a couple offensive categories: tied-fourth in shots (18) and shots per game (2.25), fifth in points (9) and points per game (1.12), and tied-third in goals (4).Â
Scouting Ohio (1-7)
The Ohio Bobcats own an overall record of 1-7 and are 0-1 in MAC play after being shutout in back-to-back games last weekend. Ohio lost 3-0 to Miami in its MAC opener on Sept. 15 before falling to Ohio State by the same score on Sept. 17.
As a team, the Bobcats have accumulated nine goals, averaging 1.1 goals scored per game, and have struck 37 shots with 13 on goal for  a 4.6 shots per game average. Leading Ohio on offense is Kendall Ballard who has scored a team-high five goals this season. Right behind her is Karynne Baker who has two goals this season along with two assists.Â
Alex Pennington has served as the primary goalkeeper for the Bobcats, accumulating 430:26 minutes between the posts. She has made 33 saves while allowing 15 goals.
