BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State University field hockey will travel to Harrisonburg, Va. for two road tests this weekend. The Mountaineers will play James Madison on Friday, Sept. 1 at 4 p.m. before a neutral match against Lafayette on Saturday at 2 p.m.
The Mountaineers enter this weekend with a 1-1 overall record, which includes a season-opening victory over LaSalle last weekend. Sophomore
Ali Williams leads App State offensively with two goals, both of which came in the LaSalle match. The other Mountaineer to score this season is senior
Taylor Cimbalist, who also leads the team in shots with five. Redshirt-sophomore
Rachel Gaines has made 15 saves in her 140 minutes between the posts.
SCOUTING THE DUKES
James Madison was ranked at No. 19 in the Preseason NFHCA Coaches Poll and comes into the weekend with two wins over ranked opponents. The Dukes defeated No. 25 Liberty by a score of 3-1 before upending No. 23 Old Dominion in a 3-2 shootout victory.
The Dukes are led offensively by Ashley Gippe and Miranda Rigg, who have scored three and two goals, respectively. Rigg also accumulated a team-high 15 assists.
SCOUTING THE LEOPARDS
In Lafayette's only match of the season, the Leopards defeated Hofstra in a 3-0 shutout last Friday. Rosie Shanks scored two goals in the match while Cody Hunsicker also netted a goal of her own.
