Lexi Kohut Named Sun Belt Freshman of the Week

BOONE, N.C. — Lexi Kohut, a freshman outside hitter from Grosse Pointe Park, Mich., tallied 37 kills with eight blocks in two matches over the weekend to earn the Sun Belt Conference's Freshman of the Week award. She is the fourth Appalachian State University volleyball player to earn a Sun Belt weekly award, joining Kara Spicer, a two-time freshman of the week, and Ashlyn Brown, who was named setter of the week back in September.

Kohut set a career-high with 20 kills in a five-set setback against Georgia State on Friday. That tally is also the most kills produced by an App State freshman in a single game this season.

She followed her performance on Friday with 17 kills in a 3-1 victory over rival Georgia Southern. In the fourth set of that match with the score tied at 25, Kohut sealed the win with back-to-back kills.

The freshman has accumulated 231 kills (2.89 kills per set) thus far this season, good for second highest on the team behind teammate Melissa McMath who has 259 kills.

Kohut and the Mountaineers will head down to Conway, S.C., for a matchup with Coastal Carolina on Friday, Oct. 13, at 6:30 p.m. The two teams will meet again on Sunday, Oct. 15, in Boone at 12:30 p.m.
