MOBILE, Ala. – Appalachian State University men's track and field concluded day one of the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships on Monday. The Apps currently sit in fifth with 20 points – 25 behind the leaders, Texas State.
The Mountaineers were led in part by Phillip Thomas' fourth-place finish in the pole vault. Thomas cleared 15-2.50 feet. Patrick Quinn also scored points in the pole vault and took fifth with the same height.
In the 3,000 meter run, Kyle McFoy scored a point and finished in 8:32.78. The men's distance medley relay finished in second with a time of 10:07.93. The relay team consisted of Evan Laratta, Ryan Hastings, Raphael Rojas and Michael Ellis.
Freshman Kimani Hoffman finished eighth in the long jump and scored a point for the Apps. Hoffman posted a jump of 23-4.75 feet.
Also in the weight throw, John Leonard posted a point for App State after throwing 55-2.00 feet. The throw for Leonard was a personal-best.
Rojas qualified and will advance to the finals in the 400 meter preliminaries with a time of 48.99. In the 800 meter run, Hastings will also advance to the finals after posting a time of 1:54.57.
