BOONE, N.C. – App State Soccer will look to rebound from an opening night setback against UNCW in a contest against another CAA opponent as the Mountaineers face the Campbell Camels on Sunday at 5 p.m. The game will be broadcast on FloSports and available through Amazon Prime.
App State fell 3-0 to UNCW on Thursday in its season opener. The Mountaineers tallied eight shots (three on target), four corner kicks were nearly even in possession with the Seahawks but were unable to find the back of the net. Six newcomers made their debut for the Mountaineers including freshmen Anaya Jones, Yonah Dias and Campbell Sykes who played their first collegiate matches. App State is coming off its third consecutive season of at least seven wins, doing so for the first time since 2014-16. The 2025 season was highlighted by a 1-0 victory over Miami, the Mountaineers first win over an ACC opponent. App State was picked 8th in the Sun Belt coaches poll heading into 2026.
Campbell enters the matchup 1-0-0 on the season, winning 2-0 at Longwood on Thursday. It marked the Camels first season-opening win since 2018. Avery Garrett and Ava Kanaar scored in the win, while the Camels tallied eight shots and six corner kicks in the match. The Camels were picked to place 5th in the south division of the CAA this season. They went 4-7-5 overall and 2-4-3 in conference play a season ago.
App State and Campbell are meeting for the 12th time in program history in a series that dates back to the Mountaineers' inaugural 1994 season. The Camels lead the all-time series 3-6-2, but App State won the most recent battle 3-0 in 2018. Maggie Hanusek and Kait Seitter both tallied a goal and an assist for the Mountaineers in the win. Sunday's contest will be the first meeting between the two teams in Buies Creek since 2017.
