Soccer Matches Program-Best Unbeaten Streak with 2-0 Win at ETSU

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – App State Soccer jumped out to an early lead and clamped down defensively late to secure a 2-0 victory at ETSU in the final match of non-conference play Thursday at Summers-Taylor Stadium.

With the win, App State (5-1-2) extended its unbeaten streak to seven consecutive matches, tying the longest unbeaten streak in program history – accomplished in 2005 and 2007.

The Mountaineers got off to a strong start, dictating pace in the opening half of play and scoring less than eight minutes in. Libby Bermingham took a shot from the top of the box, and while her initial attempt was blocked, the rebound deflected right to Olivia Simon who drilled it into the bottom-right corner of the goal for a 1-0 lead. Simon has now registered a point in each of the last four matches, including a goal in three of those outings.

The Mountaineers doubled their lead ten minutes later. With a threatening ball bouncing around in the box, Ellie Garrison delivered a one-touch strike for her third goal of the season.

App State held ETSU (3-3-0) to just one shot in the opening half and outshot the Buccaneers 11-5 for the game, led by four shots from Garrison. The Mountaineers also led 6-3 in corner kicks. The win snapped ETSU's 11-match home unbeaten streak which dated back to Oct. 2024.

The Mountaineers recorded their fourth clean sheet of the season and improved to 4-0-1 on the road this year, outscoring their opponents 13-3 in those contests. The five wins in non-conference play for the Black and Gold are the most in a season since 2016.

App State will return to action on Sept. 18 as they open Sun Belt play against Georgia State at 6 p.m. at The Valley.
