BOONE, N.C. – The App State tennis team hosts James Madison on Friday for Senior Day, followed by the regular-season finale against Georgia State in Atlanta on Sunday.
Last Time Out
The Mountaineers (10-10) won both matches before the bye-week, sweeping Georgia Southern before overcoming a 3-0 deficit to win four singles matches against Coastal Carolina to push the win streak to three.
No. 12
Savannah Dada-Mascoll extended her winning streak to 18 matches, setting a personal best by surpassing her 16-match streak from 2024. Dada-Mascoll, who has won 22 consecutive sets, earned a 6-3, 6-1 win over Georgia Southern and followed it with a 6-1, 7-5 victory at the No. 1 spot.
Ruby Broadbent clinched the win at No. 6 in straight sets, avoiding a tiebreak in the second set to win 6-3, 7-5 for her third straight win.
Scouting the Mountaineers
Four-time Sun Belt Women's Tennis Player of the Week Dada-Mascoll leads App State with an 18-1 record at the No. 1 spot. Her performance against Georgia Southern and Coastal Carolina earned her a record-setting fourth Sun Belt singles weekly award. Dada-Mascoll's only singles loss came in the season opener against then-No. 23 Ange Oby Kajuru (now ranked No. 15). Since that loss, Dada-Mascoll has dropped only two sets, with the most recent occuring in the first set against UT Arlington on Feb. 28. With 98 total singles wins including fall contests, she sits two wins shy of 100 in the final weekend of the regular season.
Two matches remaining in the season, freshmen
Allegra Hodson and Broadbent each have at least eight wins in singles play. All Mountaineers are at least .500 in doubles play, with Broadbent,
Naledi Manyube and
Taya Powell each recording 10 wins.
With the sweep of Georgia Southern, third-year head coach
Hannah Fetters earned her 100th collegiate win. She has won 42 matches in three years, the most by any coach in program history over that span.
Scouting the Dukes
James Madison (11-9) enters the matchup having won two of its last five matches, including victories over East Carolina and George Mason. The Mountaineers and Dukes have faced common opponents in East Carolina, Marshall, VCU and Virginia Tech. The Dukes defeated VCU and Virginia Tech 4-3 earlier this season but were swept by Marshall.
JMU is led by freshman Brooklyn Hoffman, who is 10-8 overall while playing primarily at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. Senior Daria Munteanu plays at the No. 1 spot and is 8-10 on the season. The Dukes are led by head coach Tyson Thomas, who is in his third year at the helm.
Scouting the Panthers
Georgia State (5-12) enters Sunday's matchup on a five-match losing streak, with its last win being a 4-3 victory against Alabama State on March 15. Both the Mountaineers and the Panthers have faced Georgia Southern, North Florida, Kennesaw State and Mercer. Georgia State fell to Kennesaw State 4-1 but defeated Mercer 4-1.
The Mountaineers last faced Georgia State last season in the High Country, winning 4-0 in the final home match of the regular season. The Panthers are led by head coach LeTrone Mason, who is in his fourth season.
Up Next
The Mountaineers will prepare for the Sun Belt Championship, with match times to be determined. Because the Sun Belt does not have a conference schedule for tennis, seeding will be based on the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) RPI.
