BOONE, N.C. — App State Tennis student-athletes Ruby Broadbent and Taya Powell were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team, the association announced.
To qualify for the award, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher and be in the lineup for at least 75% of team-scored matches.
Broadbent finished her sophomore season earning second-team honors in doubles alongside Savannah Dada-Mascoll, holding a 5-3 record from the No. 1 spot. As one of three Mountaineers with double-digit singles wins, she tallied seven straight victories to close out the season, including three in the Sun Belt Championship. Majoring in advertising, she ended the year with a 3.86 cumulative GPA, earning spots on the dean's and chancellor's lists for the 2025-26 academic year.
Powell completed her third year of collegiate competition with standout success in doubles, earning Doubles Team of the Week honors with Dada-Mascoll on Feb. 26. Paired with Naledi Manyube in the Sun Belt Championship, the duo picked up a 6-1 win at No. 2, clinching a crucial doubles point in a victory that came down to the final two singles matches. Making her second straight appearance on the CSC Academic All-District team, Powell finished her junior year with a 3.73 cumulative GPA while making the dean's and chancellor's lists, with plans to graduate with a degree in communication sciences and disorders.
