BOONE, N.C. – The App State tennis team hits the road for a test against No. 62 Old Dominion on Friday, followed by an intrastate matchup against East Carolina on Sunday. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
Last Time Out
The Mountaineers (7-9) split their weekend, falling to Marshall 5-2 on Saturday before rebounding with a 4-3 win over ETSU on Sunday.
Naledi Manyube clinched the win for App State, rallying after dropping the first set to win 2-6, 7-5, 7-5.
Ninth-ranked
Savannah Dada-Mascoll extended her winning streak to 14 matches, making it now two wins away from matching her career-best streak of 16 set during the 2024 season.
Sophomore
Alexi Cleveland earned back-to-back wins over the weekend. She defeated her Marshall opponent 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 5 spot and carried that momentum into the ETSU match, where she rallied for a 2-6, 6-1, 6-3 victory.
Scouting the Mountaineers
Two-time Sun Belt Women's Tennis Player of the Week Dada-Mascoll leads App State with a 14-1 record at the No. 1 spot. Her only singles loss came in the season opener against then-No. 23 Ange Oby Kajuru (now ranked No. 7). Since that loss, Dada-Mascoll has dropped only two sets; the most recent occurred in the first set against UT Arlington on Feb. 28.
Sixteen matches into the season, freshmen
Sreenidhi Balaji and
Allegra Hodson are both at or above .500 in singles. As a doubles pair, they are 7-4 at the No. 3 spot, with their win over ETSU helping clinch a crucial doubles point in the match.
Third-year head coach
Hannah Fetters has 98 career wins, leaving her two shy of the 100-win milestone. She returns six players from last year's roster: Dada-Mascoll,
Ruby Broadbent, Cleveland, Manyube,
Taya Powell, and
Isabela Romanichen. The squad also welcomed newcomers Balaji and Hodson.
Scouting the Monarchs
No. 62 Old Dominion (3-4) is coming off a 19-5 championship season in 2025, during which the Monarchs won the Sun Belt Championship before falling to Florida Atlantic in the first round of the NCAA tournament. Despite their current record, six of their seven opponents have been from "Power Four" conferences, including wins over Kansas and Wake Forest. Old Dominion returns six players and added one freshman.
The Monarchs are led by head coach Dominic Manilla, who is in his 15th year at the helm.
Scouting the Pirates
East Carolina (3-5) enters Sunday's matchup after falling to William & Mary 6-1 on Sunday. ECU returns five players and added three freshmen to the 2026 roster.
The Pirates are led by head coach Kirstin Burgess, who is in her third year leading the program.
