BOONE, N.C. — App State Wrestling's home dual against Bellarmine has been moved from Sunday afternoon to Monday at 3 p.m. in Varsity Gym due to inclement weekend weather in the Carolinas.
Doors will open to the public at 2 p.m.
The Mountaineers (6-5 overall) and Knights (6-4 overall) are both 3-0 in the SoCon following road victories Friday night. Bellarmine is already in North Carolina, having won 38-3 at Davidson on the same night that App State won 29-12 at Campbell.
App State and Bellarmine are two of the three SoCon programs without a league loss — The Citadel went to Chattanooga on Saturday in a matchup of teams with 2-0 league records and reached 3-0 via a victory decided by criteria, as an 18-all tie was broken by the fact that the lone pin of the night belonged to the Bulldogs.
Chattanooga was picked to win the league in the preseason coaches' poll, followed by The Citadel in second, reigning SoCon champ App State in third and Bellarmine in fourth.
The App State-Bellarmine dual was originally scheduled to be the annual Old Timers Match. Instead, App State Wrestling alums will now be recognized during the Feb. 8 home dual against The Citadel — that Sunday match begins at 2 p.m.
App State has won 25 of 30 individual matches in league victories against Presbyterian, VMI and Campbell this season, with the Mountaineers prevailing at seven of 10 weights in Buies Creek.
The Knights went 5-3 in league duals last season, falling 23-19 against App State, and they have taken 26 of 30 matches in league victories this year against Presbyterian, VMI and Davidson.
Bellarmine's top wrestlers have been Trayce Eckman at 133 (15-7 overall, 7-2 in duals), AJ Rallo at 141 (18-6 overall, 8-2 in duals), Grant O'Dell at 174 (19-6 overall, 7-2 in duals) and Daulton Mayer at heavyweight (15-8 overall, 6-4 in duals). Mayer has eight pins this season after recording 17 a year ago.
For fans attending Monday, tickets in advance of match day
are available online at $10 for general admission, with a $5 order charge. Tickets purchased on match day are $15 at the door.
Home duals are
streamed live on FloWrestling, which has a subscription model.
