New Distance Medley Relay Record Highlights Mountaineers’ Final Day at Doc Hale Invite

BLACKSBURG, Va. -  A new distance medley relay program record highlighted the App State women's track and field team's second day of competition at Virginia Tech's Doc Hale Invitational on Saturday. App State totaled 14 top-10 finishes in Blacksburg, Va. Additionally, the Mountaineers have broken at least one program record at all four indoor meets so far this season.

"We had lots of consistent finishes this weekend, but there is still more work to do," said director of track & field/cross country Damion McLean.

The distance medley relay (DMR) team of graduate student Lauren Johnston, sophomore Jayla Adams, junior Addison Ollendick-Smith, and senior Jasmine Donohue recorded a new program record of 11:25.30 to place second. The previous App State record was 11:37.28, set in 1999 by MJ Harrelson, Abby Stack, Angela Pryor, and Abby Reeder. With Saturday's time, App State's DMR team ranks 22nd in the NCAA.

In the women's 1,000 meters, senior Regan Hodge and freshman Ella Battel recorded personal bests of 2:58.78 to finish third and 3:01.36 to finish fourth, respectively. Hodge rose to fifth in the App State all-time list and Battel rose to eighth in the list. The 4x400-meter relay team of sophomore Nicole Wells, freshman Zaniya Littlejohn, junior Corlasia Scott, and freshman Ja'Naya Linder also registered a fifth-place finish with a time of 3:51.73.

Freshman Lilly Nichols landed seventh in the bronze section of the women's pole vault with a clearance of 4.17m (13' 8.25"). On the track, sophomore Kendall Johnson clocked a personal best of 24.64 to finish ninth and fellow sophomore Jayla Adams stopped the clock at 24.66 to round out the top-10 in the women's 200 meters.
