BOONE, N.C. — The second set of NCAA Coaches' Rankings for the 2025 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships includes three App State wrestlers:
Will Miller (No. 7 at 165 pounds),
Luke Uliano (No. 29 at 174 pounds) and
Carson Floyd (No. 29 at 197 pounds).
The RPI, another component evaluated by the NCAA Division I Wrestling Committee during the at-large selection and seeding process for the NCAA Championships, includes four Mountaineers: Floyd (No. 24), Uliano (No. 28),
Jeremiah Price (No. 32 at 157 pounds) and
Chad Bellis (No. 27 at 133 pounds).
The coaches' rankings are determined by a vote of 16 coaches in each weight class, with two head coaches from each of the eight conferences. Wrestlers must have eight Division I matches in the weight class to be considered, with at least one within the last 30 days.
The RPI is a calculation that consists of three factors: winning percentage, opponent winning percentage (strength of schedule) and opponent's opponent winning percentage (opponent's strength of schedule). Only matches against Division I opponents at the designated weight class count towards the RPI, and a wrestler needs to have wrestled 15 matches to be ranked (Miller, for instance, currently has 13 matches against Division I opponents).
In addition to the Coaches' Rankings and RPI, head-to-head competition, quality wins, conference tournament placement, results versus common opponents and win percentage also factor into the NCAA selection process.
Counting non-Division I wins, Miller is 17-1 overall with a 4-1 record against ranked opponents (wins against Minnesota's Patrick Sparks, Virginia Tech's Mac Church, NC State's Derek Fields and The Citadel's Thomas Snipes). In his only loss, he held a last-minute lead against No. 3 Peyton Hall from West Virginia.
Uliano (19-7 overall) is 2-5 against ranked foes (all five ranked losses by decision), with a 19-3 tech fall against returning All-American Lennox Wolak (No. 30) and a 15-1 major decision against No. 20 Sergio Desiante from Chattanooga.
Floyd (24-6 overall) is 2-2 against ranked opponents with wins against No. 28 Christian Knop from NC State and No. 24 Patrick Brophy from The Citadel.
The 2025 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships take place from March 20-22 at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
The SoCon Championships will be held March 7-8 at UNC Asheville's Kimmel Arena, and the NCAA Coaches' Rankings contribute to how many automatic NCAA berths will be allocated at each weight. Currently, there are 16 SoCon wrestlers included in the NCAA Coaches' Rankings:
