CLEMSON, S.C. — App State Women's Golf played its first fall tournament four days after the introduction of new head coach
Chan Metts and used a strong opening round to place 11th out of 16 teams at the 36-hole Tiger Classic on Monday.
App State sophomore
Ona Lukes' even-par 72 in Round 1 — two strokes better than her low score as a freshman — highlighted a 13-over team round of 301 that was topped just two times during the entire 2023-24 season by the Mountaineers.
Lukes' round of three birdies and three bogeys preceded a second-round 77 that led to a 5-over total of 149, good for 31st place.
Makena Dubois opened with a 2-over 74 and finished 47th with an 8-over total of 152, one shot ahead of teammate
Layla Meric, whose 76 in the final round led the team.
Playing as an individual, redshirt freshman
Salem Lee opened play with a 3-over 75 in just her fourth competitive round for App State. She finished with a 12-over total.
Mary-Sears Brown shot a pair of 78s in her first competitive round for the Mountaineers since the 2022 Sun Belt Championship — she transferred to Longwood following that season and sat out last season in her return to Boone.
Jacquelyn Taylor also had an opening-round 78.
Georgia Southern, led by medalist Louise Reau, won the team title as one of two schools with an under-par total.
The 2024-25 season is presented by Hound Ears Club.
