MORGANTON, N.C. — App State Women's Golf placed third as the host school at the seven-team Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate on Tuesday, with three members of the program posting top-11 finishes.
Makena Dubois and
Sara Adams, both competing as individuals, tied for sixth and placed ninth, respectively.
Layla Meric tied for 11th place.
Dubois entered the final round as the individual co-leader at 5 over and shot a 76 to finish with a 9-over total of 225 (75-74-76).
Adams tied for the second-lowest score in the field Tuesday and matched the fifth-lowest round in program history with a 2-under 70 that included six birdies. She had an 11-over total of 227 (82-75-70) to climb 11 spots on the final day.
Ending one shot off the school-record round of 69 accomplished four times by three golfers, including Dubois earlier this season, Adams gave herself a 12-foot eagle attempt on her final hole — the par-5 12th — with a pin-seeking second shot from the rough. Her eagle putt just missed, leaving her with a tap-in birdie that drew greenside hugs from coaches and family members.
After starting her round at No. 13 and making a birdie on her second hole, Adams headed to the No. 1 tee box at even par before recording consecutive birdies at holes Nos 2-3. She bogeyed two of the next three holes but got back into red numbers with impressive birdies at the eighth and ninth holes.
Led by medalist Elizabeth Lohbauer, who went from 5 over to 2 over with a final-round 69, Western Carolina finished at 33 over as a team to beat runner-up Wofford by two strokes. App State had a 70-over total (307-312-315—934) to finish six shots ahead of fourth-place North Carolina A&T.
Meric was the top finisher among App State golfers whose scores counted toward the team total. She ended up at 15 over, highlighted by a 1-over 73 in the second round.
Braelyn Pippin and
Ona Lukes tied for 18
th place after posting final-round scores of 75 and 76, respectively.
The 2024 spring season is presented by Hound Ears Club.
