POINT CLEAR, Ala. – The Sun Belt Conference Women's Golf Championship begins Monday and runs through Thursday at The Lakewood Golf Club in Point Clear, Ala.
App State is seeded 12th in the 13-team field, which includes seven schools with a first-place team finish this year and three more with a runner-up finish. In the Mountaineers' last event, first-year coach
Brittany Dabule's squad placed third among seven teams at the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate.
App State's five-player lineup will consist of
Layla Meric,
Jacquelyn Taylor,
Ona Lukes,
Makena Dubois and
Sara Adams.
All four rounds of the championship will be broadcast live on ESPN+, with live results on
Golfstat.
The tournament features three rounds of stroke play from Monday through Wednesday on the par-72, 6,106-yard layout. Following 54 holes of stroke play, top four teams will advance to match play semifinals Thursday morning. The championship match will follow the conclusion of the semifinal matches.
In 2023, ULM claimed its first Sun Belt Conference women's golf championship before representing the league at the NCAA Regionals.
Four Sun Belt teams are ranked among the top 100 teams nationally according to the latest Scoreboard National Collegiate Golf Rankings: No. 54 Georgia Southern, No. 60 Texas State, No. 93 James Madison and No. 99 Coastal Carolina.
The Lakewood Golf Club, a member of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, had its beginnings in 1944. Perry Maxwell, designer of the Tulsa Southern Hills Country Club, created Lakewood's original Dogwood course in 1947, making it the first professional quality golf course in south Alabama. Lakewood Golf Club hosted the 1974, 1986 and 2021 U.S. Senior Women's Amateur Championship.
