BLACKSBURG, Va. – The App State women's track and field team totaled 19 top-20 finishes to close out the Virginia Tech Doc Hale Meet on Saturday.
"I'm very happy with the women's team this weekend," said director of track & field/cross country
Damion McLean. "They showed a lot of grit and competitive edge that we are going to need in a few weeks. Competing against some of the best brings it out of you."
App State registered a third-place finish in the women's 4x400-meter relay after the quartet of freshmen
Nicole Wells,
Jayla Adams,
Sierra Smith, and sophomore
Daye Talley clocked a time of 3:47.91. The 4x400-meter relay team of freshman
Rebecca Cornett, graduate student
Alexia Moehling, and sophomores
Lucia Garcia and
Addison Ollendick-Smith, placed ninth with a time of 3:57.68.
Adams,
Sierra Smith, and Wells finished among the top-10 in the women's 200 meters. Adams placed sixth with a personal best of 24.46, which moves her to eighth in the App State all-time list.
Sierra Smith placed ninth (24.54, PR) and
Nicole Wells placed 10th (24.57, PR). Sophomore
Daye Talley also posted a personal best in the women's 200 meters, stopping the clock at 24.96 to finish 17th.
Graduate student
Ashlee Osaji placed 14th in the women's triple jump with a leap of 11.76m (38' 7"), while junior
Jazmine Posey placed 19th with a leap of 11.16m (36' 7.5").
In the women's 800 meters, sophomore
Addison Ollendick-Smith clocked a time of 2:17.17 to place 17th overall. Senior
Jasmine Donohue stopped the clock at 4:58.50 for a personal best and 19th-place finish in the women's mile. Her time moves her to eighth in the program top-10.
Friday Rewind
Friday's action was highlighted by a personal-best performance for sophomore
Ava Studney in the women's unseeded pole vault. Studney cleared 4.00m (13' 1.5"), which tied Taylor Drummond's mark, set in 2017 for second in the program all-time list. Graduate students
Noelle Meeker and
Celia Agee took 11th (3.75m (12' 3.5")), and 12th (3.60m (11' 9.75")), respectively.
Senior
Taylor Smith matched her personal best of 7.49 to place third in the women's 60-meter final. Her personal best was previously set at the 2023 VMI Winter Classic and ranks her second in the App State all-time list. Smith also placed 14th in the women's long jump with a mark of 5.70m (18' 8.5").
Moehling recorded a season best of 8.78 in the women's 60-meter hurdle final to finish seventh overall. Her time moved her to fifth in the App State all-time list. Meanwhile, Osaji landed eighth with a leap of 5.82m (19' 1.25") in the women's long jump.
Sierra Smith, Talley, and Cornett each clocked personal bests in the women's 400 meters.
Sierra Smith clocked a time of 57.54 to place 15th. Her time moved her to ninth in the App State all-time list. Talley placed 18th (58.82, PR), and Cornett placed 22nd (59.71, PR).
