App State Wrestling Hosts VMI On Sunday for Heroes Day

BOONE, N.C. — App State Wrestling resumes its SoCon schedule Sunday with a Heroes Day dual against VMI at 2 p.m. in Varsity Gym.
 
ticket costs $10 (it's free for App State students who show a student ID). The Rivers Street Deck across from Varsity Gym is the most popular parking option for wrestling events, with fans entering the corner of the gym adjacent to the loading dock area off Rivers Street.
 
Fans can also watch the doubleheader on the App State Wrestling Facebook page, the App State Athletics YouTube page or the Twitch.TV channel for App State Athletics.

Fans attending wrestling events should be aware that Varsity Gym has a clear bag policy for visitors. According to App State's clear bag policies:
  • Approved bags include clear plastic bags that do not exceed 12" x 6" x 12" and small clutch purses no larger than 4.5" x 6.5".
  • Bags that are not approved include diaper bags, backpacks, binocular cases, camera cases, tinted or printed pattern plastic bags, fanny packs, oversized tote bags & mesh bags, and purses exceeding 4.5" x 6.5".
In addition to celebrating heroes and first responders from the local area Sunday, approximately 35 cadets will participate in a push-up competition during the intermission.
 
On Friday, App State (4-3, 1-1) split the 10 matches with a senior-led Campbell squad in a showdown of top-30 teams, posting five straight victories from 133 to 165 pounds, before the Camels won 22-16. In the past 10 seasons, App State has a 60-6 record in SoCon duals and an 87-12 record against non-Power Five Conference opponents with 12 victories against teams from P5 leagues.
 
VMI (6-7, 0-2) was looking to pick up its first SoCon victory of the season Saturday at Presbyterian. The Keydets' overall wins leaders this season are Dyson Dunham (13-11 at 133 pounds), Patrick Jordon (14-7 at 141 pounds) and Braxton Lewis (13-6 at 174 pounds)
 
The 2023-24 season is presented by Hungry Howie's and Penn Station. App State's next appearance in Varsity Gym is a Sunday doubleheader on Feb. 18 against Bellarmine and No. 9 Cornell.
