Cameron Lyons has been promoted to App State Baseball's Director of Operations-Analytics, head coach
Kermit Smith announced Monday.
"In sports we often use the phrase 'next man up,'" said Smith. "This phrase epitomizes a cultural belief that there are people within the organization that can take the reins and continue to move the program forward in a positive way.
"Cam has been with our program for a very long time and has done everything from our laundry, to vacuuming the floors, to filling in the water cooler, to running our data and analytics, to now running our day-to-day operations. He is a graduate of our great university and bleeds black and gold. I'm very excited to have Cam continue to be a big part of our baseball program."
Lyons began working with the App State baseball program in the fall of 2018 as a student manager, assisting with on-field operations and baseball development.
During his time as a manager at App State, Lyons took a particular interest in the analytics side of baseball, and has been instrumental in collecting and analyzing data through Trackman and Rapsodo devices as well as with his work in the App State baseball pitching laboratory.
A 2023 graduate of App State, Lyons was promoted to Director of Analytics in 2023. He has worked to create App State Baseball analytics social media pages to highlight the analytical accomplishments of the team.
In addition to his role with the Mountaineers, Lyons has enhanced his experience in the baseball analytics field by working for the Boone Bigfoots in the summer of 2021, and for the Canes Baseball/Mets Scout Team as an analytics coordinator in 2023.
