24th-Ranked App State Wrestles At Duke on Monday

BOONE, N.C. — App State Wrestling's first two duals of the season were home matches against ACC opponents. The next two are road matches against ACC opponents, starting Monday with a visit to Duke's Card Gym for a 5 p.m. dual against the Blue Devils.

The Mountaineers (1-1) are ranked 24th in the most-recent NWCA Coaches Poll thanks to a 24-14 victory against then-No. 21 North Carolina, a win that followed a season-opening loss to No. 4 NC State. The matchup with Duke (4-5) begins a week that ends with a Friday trip to No. 11 Virginia Tech.

The dual will be streamed on ACCNX through the WatchESPN app (not the same as the linear version of the ACC Network), and the dual is free to the public (no tickets necessary).

Fans traveling to Durham should park in the Grounds Lot off Frank Bassett Drive (put in 110 Frank Bassett Drive as the address) for access from Cameron Boulevard/N.C. 751, turning at the light across from the Washington Duke Inn.

The Mountaineers are coming off impressive performances in their last dual (the win against UNC) and their last tournament (seven placers at the Southern Scuffle to open the new year).

Back-to-back pins from Will Miller at 165 and Luke Uliano at 174 were vital to the victory over the Tar Heels. In Chattanooga, Cody Bond placed second at 149 pounds thanks to a semifinal pin of a top-10 opponent, while Chad Bellis (125) and Riley Edwards (141) placed fourth after advancing to the semifinal round. Neither Bellis nor Edwards wrestled against UNC, but it's possible that they both compete Monday in Durham, with Ike Byers and Edwards as candidates at 141.

This could be the third meeting this season at heavyweight between App State's Jacob Sartorio and Duke's Connor Barket, as Sartorio won head-to-head meetings at the Keystone Classic and Southern Scuffle.

The Blue Devils' dual wins to date have come against Kent State, Cleveland State, SoCon program Davidson (19-16) and Queens (47-0).

The 2023-24 season is presented by Hungry Howie's and Penn Station.
