DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Mountaineers will open its 2024 season against the Davidson Wildcats in Davidson, N.C. on Sunday. This will be the first match under new Head Coach Hannah Fetters for the Mountaineers after a successful 2023 season.
On the Mountaineers
The App State Mountaineers will begin the 2024 season under a new direction with Head Coach Hannah Fetters. Fetters comes to App State after six successful seasons at the helm for the New Haven Chargers. During her time at New Haven, Fetters led the program to its first double-digit win season in her first year with the Chargers.
Fetters also coached 11 players to all-conference honors and had a nationally ranked top-50 doubles team during her time with New Haven.
Last season the Mountaineers took on Davidson in their fourth match of the season. App State claimed the victory as it defeated the Wildcats 4-0. That win took The Mountaineers to 3-1 overall in the 2023 season.
Last season was full of success for App State's tennis team as the squad competed in the postseason for the first time in program history playing in the Universal Tennis NIT Championship in Peachtree, Ga. The Mountaineers finished the season with a 14-9 overall record, an 8-3 record in Sun Belt Conference play and finished tied for third place last season.
This season, App State returns five players from last year's 14-9 team. Headlining the returners is sophomore
Savannah Dada-Mascoll. As a freshman last season, she tallied double-digit wins in both singles and doubles play. Dada-Mascoll collected 15 singles wins last season which is the third-most in program history and 12 wins in doubles play.

Ellie Murphy and Graduate-student
Maggie Pate both return to the High Country after stellar seasons last year. The two won 12 and 10 games respectively in doubles play a season ago. The Mountaineers also welcome two freshmen standouts this season in Naledi Manyubi from South Africa and
Taya Powell from Australia.
On the Wildcats
Davidson finished with an 8-13 overall record and a 2-4 record in the conference, finishing sixth in the A10 a season ago. The Wildcats return four players from last year. The group of four won a total of 19 singles games and 28 doubles games in the 2023 season.
Next up
App State will host Queens on Saturday, Feb. 2 as It will be Fetters first match in the High Country. The match is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start time.
