DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — App State Women's Golf will tee off Sunday to start the new-look Sun Belt Championship tournament, which is being held again at the LPGA International site in Florida.
The field has grown from 11 teams to 13 with the departures of two 2022 league members and additions of James Madison, Old Dominion, Southern Miss and Marshall.
The 54-hole tournament features three rounds of stroke play (Sunday/Monday/Tuesday) on the par-72, 6,200-yard course. All rounds of competition will begin at 8 a.m. ET in a split-tee format, with seven teams teeing off on No. 1 and six teams starting at No. 10.
All three rounds of the championship will be broadcast live on ESPN+ with live results on
Golfstat.
It will be the second Sun Belt appearance for sophomore
Layla Meric, who possesses the best scoring average on the team this season, while
Braelyn Pippin,
Ekaterina Prokhorova,
Jacquelyn Taylor and
Shani Brynard will be making their Sun Belt Championship debuts.
Meric and Prokhorova rank first and second on the team, respectively, with scoring averages of 77.70 and 77.78 in 2022-23.
Meric has shot even par or under par in three rounds this season, highlighted by a 1-under 71 to close the regular season in the final round of the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate. She had even-par rounds at the Golfweek Fall Challenge and in her spring opener at the HCU Husky Invitational.
Prokhorova shot a 1-over 72 in her first collegiate round and had a sixth-place finish at the Aggie Invitational in September.
Pippin shot a season-best 75 in final round of the regular season at the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate, where she tied for 13th place, and Brynard also had a season-best 75 in final round of the regular season. Taylor has three rounds of 75 or better this season, including a 1-under 71.
