App State Begins Sun Belt Tennis Play This Weekend

BOONE, N.C. - App State Tennis opens Sun Belt Conference play this weekend with home matches against Arkansas State on Saturday and ULM on Sunday. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and be played at the Deer Valley Racquet Club.

The Mountaineers (3-4) return to Boone for their first home matches since Jan. 15, a 7-0 win over Lees-McRae.  It's been a season of streaks for head coach Ashleigh Antal's squad. After a season-opening defeat to No. 2 North Carolina (which has since ascended to No. 1), App State reeled off three straight victories over Lees-McRae, Queens and Davidson. The last three outings have resulted in road losses to ETSU, Clemson and Wofford.

Returning All-Sun Belt selection Helena Jansen has served as the team's No. 1 singles in all seven matches, holding a 3-3 record entering the weekend. Freshman Savannah Dada-Mascoll has a 4-1 record between playing the No. 2 and No. 3 spot. Virginia Poggi is 3-1 splitting time between No. 4 and No. 5.
