Tennis Travels to Davidson

BOONE, N.C. – App State Tennis continues its spring season with a dual match at Davidson this Saturday.
 
The Mountaineers are 2-1 in dual matches with wins over Lees-McRae and Queens and their only loss at No. 2 North Carolina. Davidson is opening its spring season Saturday.
 
Playing at No. 1 singles and doubles, returning All-Sun Belt selection Helena Jansen capped off a dramatic finish to the Mountaineers' 4-3 win at Queens when she defeated her singles opponent 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 to break a 3-3 tie in the last singles match.
 
Jansen is 2-1 in singles this spring. Sharing the same 2-1 record are freshman Savannah Dada-Mascoll, senior Virginia Poggi and sophomore Olwyn Ryan-Bovey. Poggi earned the Mountaineers' first singles win over the Tar Heels since 2017.
 
After being swept by UNC in doubles, App State swept all six of its doubles matches against Lees-McRae and Queens, with Jansen and Ellie Murphy at No. 1, Dada-Mascoll and Maggie Pate at No. 2 and Brooke Gruber and Poggi at No. 3.
 
Davidson went 13-8 overall and 4-2 in Atlantic 10 Conference duals a year ago.
