Mountaineers Gear Up for NCAA Southeast Regional

BOONE, N.C. - The App State men's and women's cross country team returns to E.P. Tom Sawyer Park in Louisville, Ky. for the NCAA Southeast Regional on Friday. The women's 6K is set for 11 a.m. with the men's 10K to follow at noon. The top two teams and the first four finishers in the race not associated with those two teams will advance to the NCAA Championships in Stillwater, OK on Nov. 19.
 
The Mountaineers had raced at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park earlier in the season for the Live In Lou Cross Country Classic (Sept. 29). The men's team placed sixth and were led by graduate student Ryan Brown, who posted an 8K time of 24:07.4 to place in the top-30. The women placed 32nd in the team standings with sophomore Linnea Maynard leading the Mountaineers with a 5K time of 18:21.0. 
 
Last Time Out
Six Mountaineers collected All-SBC accolades for their performances at the Sun Belt Championships on Oct. 29. Junior Oliver Wilson-Cook set pace for the Black and Gold, finishing fifth individually with an 8K time of 24:28.2 and nabbing first-team all-conference honors. Brown, and sophomores Garrett Bivens and Chase Burrell garnered second-team All-SBC recognition, finishing eighth (24:40.9), ninth (24:44.9), and 10th (24:45.2), respectively. Junior Ryan Teuscher, who placed 14th with an 8K time of 25:07.8, received a third-team All-SBC nod. 
 
In the women's 5K race, Maynard earned third-team all-conference honors after posting a personal best of 17:43.5 to place 15th overall. Fellow sophomore Karsyn Kane, senior Madison Christy, and junior Annie Amundsen also posted PRs to place 19th (18:06.7), 24th (18:74.6), and 26th (18:23.3), respectively. 
 
In the team standings, the men's squad placed second overall, totaling 46 points, while the women's team placed fifth in the team rankings with 117 points. 
 
Last Time at the NCAA Southeast Regional
The App State men's team took 14th in the team standings at last fall's NCAA Southeast Regional on Nov. 12, 2021. Brown set pace for the men, posting a 10K personal best of 31:13.1 to finish 76th overall. Wilson-Cook and Danniel Smith were next to cross the finish line with times of 31:17.2 and 31:18.5 to place 81st and 82nd, respectively.
 
Izzy Evely led the App State women's squad to an 18th-place team finish.  Evely placed 38th individually with a 6K personal best of 21:17.1. Macki Walsh was next to cross the finish line with a time of 22:23.0.
