BOONE, N.C. - App State women's cross country posted a second-place finish in the 2021 season opener at the Covered Bridge Open at Don Kennedy Trails on Friday evening.
App State finished the 5k with 91 points while top-10 program Florida State placed first with 26 points and High Point totaled 102 points to come in third.
Izzy Evely paced the Black and Gold as she ran across the line with a time of 17:41.70 for an eighth-place finish.
Lila Peters crossed the line with a time of 17:58.92 to place 17th, while
Jasmine Donohue came in 18th with a time of 18:03.08 in her first collegiate race.
A transfer from Troy,
Macki Walsh's first App State meet was timed at 18:14.79 for a finish in 21st. A pair of freshmen in
Linnea Maynard (32nd) and
Alexis Svoboda (33rd) notched times of 18:29.98 and 18:33.34, respectively, in their first meets for the Mountaineers.
Kirstin Towle and
Karsyn Kane rounded out the top-40 with times of 18:45.78 and 18:47.26 to come in 37th and 39th, respectively. Both freshmen also ran their first races.
App State will have a break before returning to action on Friday, Sept. 17 at the Firetower Project at Don Kennedy Trails.
