BOONE, N.C. - App State women's cross country placed second in the 5K in the Firetower Project on Friday afternoon at Don Kennedy Trails.
App State has finished second in both meets so far this season.
The Mountaineers tallied 38 points while Elon, who was seventh in the Southeast Region coming into the meet, placed first with 28 points. College of Charleston totaled 89 points to finish third.
For the second straight race,
Izzy Evely paced four Mountaineers who finished in the top-10 with a season-best time of 17:29.08. She crossed the line to finish fourth, which is four spots higher than the season opener.
Macki Walsh improved her time by setting a new PR of 17:36.72, besting her previous PR of 17:38.8 set at Troy. Walsh placed 15 spots better than the last race at sixth.
Lila Peters shattered her PR of 17:56.6 she set last season, clocking in at 17:38.50 to cross the line with a seventh-place finish.
Jasmine Donohue upped her PR to a time of 17:40.29, placing ninth in the standings.
More Mountaineers set their PR's in today's race, as
Alexis Svoboda's 17:58.07 set a new personal record while finishing in 12th.
Linnea Maynard (16th) improved her time by just over 20 seconds at 18:09.71. Right behind her was fellow freshman,
Karsyn Kane, who placed 17th and clocked in at 18:10.18, also a PR.
Riley Roach (22nd) and
Kirstin Towle (24th) rounded out the top-24 with PR's of 18:25.64 and 18:28.33, respectively.
App State will have a break before the Live in Lou Cross Country Classic on Saturday, Oct. 2 in Louisville, Ky.
