Box Score Boone, N.C. - App State women's soccer defeated USC Upstate in a 2-1 victory Sunday evening at Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex.
The Mountaineers are 2-0-1 on the season while USC Upstate falls to 1-2.
The Mountaineers got on the board when Breckyn Monteith tallied her second goal for the Mountaineers in the 33rd minute, when she found the left-bottom corner of the net, while Addie Cooper and Carly Lantz earned the assist.
Carly Lantz recorded her second career goal in the 75th minute of the second half with a header for the score. Sarah Widderich found Emma McGibany, who then connected with Lantz to give App State the 2-0 lead.
USC Upstate attempted to come back as Ashley Flinn scored with three minutes left in the contest.
Kerry Eagleston tallied three saves in the contest, surpassing Megan Roberson (2012-15) for sixth all-time in program history.
The Mountaineers outshot the Spartans 17-5, with eight being on goal. App State held the advantage in corner kicks, 10-2.
App State returns to action on Thursday at 1 p.m. for a home affair against College of Charleston. The home match against the Cougars will be streamed on ESPN+
