In support of the Hunger and Health Coalition in Boone, North Carolina, App State is offering free admission to fans in attendance, who bring in one or more canned food items. In addition, fans who wear holiday sweaters will have a chance to win a special prize.
The Mountaineers are looking to improve their home record to 5-2 going into Tuesdays's game against the Eastern Kentucky Colonels.
On the road, App State is 2-4, after notching wire-to-wire wins against UNC Asheville and Gardner-Webb.
Last time out, Michaela Porter finished with a team-high of 13 points and three rebounds, following a career-high of 22 points against Davidson on Wednesday. Freshman Zada Porter followed M. Porter, who logged eight points in the contest.
The Mountaineers shot 30.8 (20-65) percent for the game with three made threes.
Ten Old Dominion players scored in the game, led by Iggy Allen who finished with 23 points and eight rebounds, followed by Ajah Wayne with 21 points and two rebounds on the afternoon.
EKU is 5-6 overall thus far this season, following a 9-15 overall finish and 8-12 in A-SUN play in the 2020-21 season. The Colonels return senior, Jayla Johnson, who leads the team with 14.5 ppg and ranks third with 5.7 rebounds.
NOTABLES:
• As a team, the guard-heavy App State squad leads the Sun Belt with 8.3 3-pointers made per contest (32nd in the nation) and is fourth in the league with 9.9 steals per game (48th in the nation).
• Preseason All-Sun Belt third teamer Michaela Porter leads the Black and Gold and ranks fifth in the Sun Belt, averaging 13.6 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists and a team-best 2.3 steals.
• Janay Sanders is second on the team and ranks 16th in the Sun Belt with 11.1 ppg, including a career-high 22 at Mercer and 19 at Duke.
• Faith Alston is fifth on the team with 8.5 points per game and sets the table with a team-high 2.8 assists per outing.
• Newcomer Alexia Allesch, a transfer from Seton Hall, is third on the team with 10.4 points per game and a team-high 8.1 rebounds and a team-best 0.9 blocks
• Freshman Emily Carver is sixth among Sun Belt players with 1.5 three's made per game.
• This is the second matchup between the Mountaineers and the Colonels, following a hard- fought victory in 2011.
• Last year's team finished 15-12 overall and 10-8 in Sun Belt Conference play.
• Head coach Angel Elderkin is in her eighth season at the helm and is looking to lead App State to its second straight winning season and third in four years.
