Women’s Soccer Sweeps Sun Belt Player of the Week Awards

BOONE, N.C. - Breckyn Monteith and Kerry Eagleston were named Sun Belt's Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.

Monteith earned the award for Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career. She tallied three goals last weekend, recording one goal in a 2-0 App State victory against Louisiana on Thursday and both goals in the Mountaineers' 2-1 victory over Little Rock on Sunday.

The Cornelius, N.C., native sits fourth in the Sun Belt and leads the Mountaineers with eight goals this season

Eagleston earned the award for Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season. She also earned the honor on Sept. 14 after helping the Mountaineers defeat FIU and Wofford.

The Winston-Salem, N.C., native tallied 17 saves on the weekend against Louisiana and Little Rock. She recorded 11 saves in Thursday's match against Louisiana, clinching the 2-0 victory for her 11th clean sheet. She added six saves against Little Rock on Sunday afternoon in a 2-1 win. Eagleston is one shutout away from tying Emma White (2006-09) for fourth all-time in program history.

"I'm grateful for the recognition of these two incredible young women. They have both grown so much this season," said head coach Sarah Strickland. "Kerry has battled the entire season in the net and has kept us in games, and inspired the team to fight. Breckyn has threatened back lines both offensively and defensively. Her work ethic and determination motivates others around her. As iron sharpens iron, these two are leading and connecting every day. This past weekend was an exciting one to end the conference regular season with momentum going into the tournament."

The Mountaineers head to the Sun Belt Conference tournament on Nov. 1 in Foley, Ala., after finishing the regular season 6-10-1 overall and 2-8-0 in conference play.
