BOONE, N.C. - App State women's soccer powered a 2-1 victory over Little Rock on Sunday afternoon at Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex.
The Mountaineers improve 6-10-1 overall and 2-8-0 in conference play, while the Trojans fall 7-7-2 overall and 3-4-3 in the Sun Belt.
Breckyn Monteith tallied both goals for the Black and Gold, improving her goal record to eight on the season. The first came in the 17th minute of the contest after Audrey Viso connected the ball to Sarah Widderich, who found the foot of Monteith. In the 57th minute of the contest, Monteith scored her second goal, while Viso earned her second assist of the day.
App State relied on its defense to hold Little Rock going into halftime, with a 1-0 lead while dominating ball possession for the majority of the contest.
Little Rock scored its lone goal in the 82nd minute of the contest, after Fanney Einarsdottir dropped it in the net.
The Apps had eight shots with half being on goal, while attempting two corners. Audrey Viso led the way with two assists and tallied 4 shots with one being on goal, while Lauren Murphy and Hayley Boyles had a pair of attempts.
"I thought that the two goals were outstanding," said head coach Sarah Strickland. "I think that we have to defend better in the defensive third and move our feet, and not foul. We told them during halftime that we can't concede set pieces against this group. So, it's something that we need to clean up and continue to work on, and make sure that we are prepared for defending in the final third in the tournament."
App State returns to action on Nov. 1 to begin the Sun Belt Conference tournament in Foley, Ala.
