Women’s Soccer Set to Play Arkansas State for Final Road Series

BOONE, N.C. -  App State women's soccer is set to play Arkansas State for its final road match of the regular season on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET in Jonesboro, Ark.

Last Time Out
The Mountaineers suffered a 2-1 defeat against ULM on Friday night in Monroe, La., after inclement weather in the area cut the contest short. 

The Mountaineers struck early, after Breckyn Monteith found the back of the net in the 22nd minute of the contest, after a free kick by Emma McGibany put it in the box. Olivia Cohen and Sarah Widderich earned the assist.

Three minutes later, the Warhawks scored to make it a 1-1 draw. 

In the 37th minute of the contest, Courtney Marten scored, giving the Warhawks the 2-1 lead, going into the break. 

Due to inclement weather after the halftime break, the match was cut short with 19 minutes remaining.

The Mountaineers drop 4-9-1 overall and 0-7-0 in conference play, while ULM improves 9-3-1 on the season and 3-3-1 in league play.

Scouting the Red Wolves
Arkansas State is 8-4-1 overall and 5-1-0 in conference play, following a 3-3 draw in two overtime periods against Georgia State on Friday. Last season, the Red Wolves finished 11-5-1 overall and 7-0-1 in conference play. Arkansas State returns starter Sarah Sedoma who is tied for first in goals with Aliyah Williamson, with six goals. In addition, Sedoma leads the Red Wolves with six assists on the season. 

Series History
In the last seven match ups, the Mountaineers are 2-3-2 in the series. In the most recent contest in 2020, App State fell in a 1-0 defeat against the Red Wolves. In six of the seven matchups, the two teams have tied or been decided by one goal. 

What's Next
App State returns to action against Louisiana on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex. The home affair will be streamed on ESPN+.
