Wrestling Climbs to No. 27 in National Coaches Poll

BOONE, N.C. — A matchup of top-30 teams is looming, as App State Wrestling moved up to No. 27 in this week's NWCA Coaches Poll.

The Mountaineers (8-2, 5-0) moved up one spot to be second in the others receiving votes category with seven voting points. Twelve of the 28 teams nationally with at least one vote are from the Big Ten, and App State is No. 7 among teams outside the Big Ten, ACC, Pac-12 and Big 12.

App State, which has won eight straight duals since losing 19-13 at North Carolina (now ranked No. 8) and 24-12 against NC State (now ranked No. 3), returns to action Thursday at 20th-ranked Campbell. Like the Mountaineers, the Camels are unbeaten in the Southern Conference with a 4-0 league mark. Thursday's dual in Carter Gym begins at 6 p.m.

Many national rankings were also released Tuesday, and as many as seven Mountaineers received recognition in one set of top-33 rankings: Sean Carter (125 pounds), Codi Russell (133 pounds), Jonathan Millner (149 pounds), Matt Zovistoski (157 pounds), Will Formato (165 pounds), Thomas Flitz (174 pounds) and Cary Miller (285 pounds) were all ranked by Open Mat.

Miller is as high as No. 15 in one set of rankings, Millner is as high as No. 17 and Zovistoski is as high as No. 20.

The 2019-20 wrestling season is presented by Hungry Howies.
