Conetta Takes Third as Six Wrestlers Place at Patriot Open

FAIRFAX, Va. — App State had five wrestlers place in the top six of their weight classes at the Patriot Open, highlighted by Anthony Conetta's third-place finish at 165 pounds and Logan Eller's 4-1 record at 197 pounds.
 
Conetta went 3-1, following an 11-8 semifinal loss with an 8-0 major decision over Rider's Giovanni Alejandro in the third-place match.
 
App State's other top-six placers were Colt Campbell (fourth at 174 pounds with a 2-2 record, including a 2-0 start to reach the semifinal round), unattached Brayden Fahrbach (fourth at 149 pounds with a 2-2 record, including a 2-0 start to reach the semifinal round), Eller (fifth at 197) and unattached Nick Grizales (sixth at 165 pounds with a 4-2 record).
 
Eller's only loss was a 4-1 quarterfinal decision against 19th-ranked Payton Thomas from Navy.
 
Campbell reached the semifinal round with a 4-1 overtime victory against Rutgers' Nathan Blanchette, and Fahrbach reached the 149 semifinal via a 4-1 win that included back points from the top position to start the third period against Maryland's Michael Pizzuto.
 
Grizales, competing in just his second event of the fall, followed an opening-round loss with four straight victories before dropping a 15-14 decision against Rider's Gianni Maldonado.
 
The 2025-26 season is presented by Hungry Howie's and Penn Station. The Mountaineers' next event is a dual scheduled for Dec. 17 at Duke.
