Box Score BLACKSBURG, V.A.- The App State women's tennis team suffered a tough loss at the hands Virginia Tech by a final score of 6-1 on Sunday afternoon. This loss puts the Mountaineers at 0-2 on the young season.
Virginia Tech took the early lead with the doubles point after
Cassie McLay/María José Zacarias and
Sasha Pisareva/
Teodora Sevo fell in their respective matches.
VT claimed a 5-0 lead until Pisareva tallied the lone point for the Black and Gold, posting her second straight win over a Power Five opponent in as many matches. Pisareva downed Natalie Novotna in three sets 6-2, 4-6, 6-2,
bouncing back from a second-set defeat before pulling out the final frame.
Cassie McLay and María José Zacarias captured one-set leads but their counterparts tied up the match in the second set. McLay fell to Nina Sorkin, while Zacarias suffered the setback to Shene Disbergen.
App State will look for its first victory on Saturday at 2 p.m. against Campbell in the home opener.
