BOONE, N.C. — After opening its Southern Conference schedule Thursday with a 40-9 win at Gardner-Webb, App State hosts a SoCon doubleheader Sunday against Presbyterian (2 p.m.) and Davidson (4 p.m.) in Varsity Gym.
The doubleheader also serves as the annual Old Timers Match, and App State Wrestling alums will be recognized on the mat between duals. Wrestling alums planning to attend should RSVP by emailing Rene Perez at
perezra@appstate.edu. Those who RSVP will be able to attend the doubleheader free of charge, and the group admission rate will be available for an accompanying guest.
Presbyterian is a SoCon newcomer in its first year with a men's wrestling program since it competed from 1947-50, and this will be the official SoCon debut for the Blue Hose. The first of its two matchups this season against The Citadel was a nonconference dual won 37-8 by the Bulldogs.
Presbyterian is also the only Division I program that sponsors women's wrestling.
Davidson, meanwhile, is 0-2 in SoCon action to this point with a 28-15 loss to VMI and a 47-0 loss to Chattanooga.
Two App State seniors (
Cary Miller,
Matt Zovistoski) and two true freshmen (
Sean Carter,
Julian Gorring) recorded pins against Gardner-Webb in the 2019-20 league opener for the Mountaineers. Zovistoski is No. 8 in App State history with 90 career wins, and Miller is No. 15 with 81 career wins. He picked up the 27th pin of his career at Gardner-Webb.
