Women's Soccer Travels to Coastal Carolina

BOONE, N.C. - App State women's soccer travels to Conway, S.C. for a 6 p.m. matchup against Coastal Carolina on Thursday at CCU Soccer Stadium.

About the Mountaineers

Last Time Out
App State finished last weekend with a 1-0-1 mark at home following a 3-0 victory over Wofford. The Mountaineers used three second-half scores to stay undefeated at home. Molly Niewald returned to action after a torn ACL, seeing her first minutes on Friday against Troy in the Sun Belt opener before scoring the game-winning goal against the Terriers. Mary Perkins followed that up moments later before Tess Cairney tacked on a goal in the 80th minute. Kerry Eagleston tallied the first clean sheet of her career in 90 minutes with six saves. 

A Win Would
- Give the Mountaineers their first road win of the season.
- Improve to 4-4-2 on the season, while running the undefeated streak to three games.
- Give the Apps their first Sun Belt win of league play. 
- Give App three straight wins over CCU. 

Mountaineers in the National Rankings
Kristin Brown's team-high five assists are 22nd in the nation and tied for first in the Sun Belt, while Eagleston's 42 saves are 55th in the country, 12th among freshmen, second in the conference and first among first-year players. 

Fire Away
The Mountaineers' 108 shots on the season are fifth in the conference while the 12 shots per game are fifth as well. Appalachian's offense has scored 16 goals, which is fourth in the league, while in three wins, the Mountaineers are averaging 3.67 goals. Also, App State has been a second-half team, outscoring its opponent 12-3 in the second period. 

Balanced Attacked
Four student-athletes have scored multiple goals with Ava Dawson boasting a team-high four goals. Mary Perkins, Hayley Boyles and Tess Cairney each have two goals, while six other players have scored once. 

Scouting Coastal Carolina
The Chanticleers are 3-5-1 on the season following a 2-1 over Troy on Sunday for their first home win of the season. CCU is 3-1-1 over its last five matches following an 0-4 start to the campaign. Sun Sigurvinsdottir leads the team with four goals and eight points. She's one of three players with at least two scores. Her eight points are a team high as well. Seeing the majority of the time between the net is RyleeAtteberry, who has played 690 minutes with a 2.22 goals-against average and 30 saves. Coastal Carolina was picked to finish fourth in the preseason poll. 

Series History
App State is 3-4-2 against CCU. The Mountaineers have won the past two matchups with a pair of shutouts at home by a combined score of 3-0.
