BOONE, N.C. -- Appalachian State women's cross country finished fourth of nine teams at the season opening Covered Bridge Open on Friday evening.
The Mountaineers tallied 100 points in the meet. Florida State claimed first with 20 points, East Carolina won a tiebreaker with High Point to finish second with 63 points, with High Point taking third.
Due to a course error, the race ended up being 5,200 meters instead of the planned 5,000 meters.
Izzy Evely led the Black and Gold across the finish line in seventh with a time of 18:25.89.
Sarah Venable also recorded a top-25 finish for App State, crossing 24th in 19:13.63.
Kylee Frady finished 27th in 19:29.13,
Lila Peters placed 29th in 19:32.92 and
Sarah Sandreuter was 33rd in 19:45.20.
App State will take a few weeks off and return to action on Sept. 21 by hosting the Mountain to Seas Open. The women's 5K race is set for 9 a.m. at the Don Kennedy Trails.
