BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State wrestler
Matt Zovistoski was named to the Southern Conference's Academic All-Conference team Tuesday.
Majoring in Cell/Molecular Biology, Zovistoski is a two-time NWCA Division I Scholar All-American and two-time NCAA Championships qualifier with one season of eligibility remaining.
Zovistoski, who redshirted during the 2017-18 season, qualified for the NCAAs and earned Scholar All-America recognition as both a sophomore in 2016-17 and redshirt junior in 2018-19. He finished this past season 27-15 to improve his career record to 73-39.
Both of Zovistoski's appearances at the NCAA Championships have occurred at 149 pounds, as he posted two NCAA wins during a 28-10 season in 2017.
To be eligible for the Academic All-Conference team, a student-athlete much achieve a minimum 3.3 cumulative GPA, must have completed at least three semesters of class work at the Southern Conference institution (no true freshmen or first-year transfers) and must have participated in a minimum of 50 percent of his or her team's contests in the most recently concluded season.
